You may also want to check in your httpd.conf to make sure that apache 
has access to /larger_drive/directory/ and isn't blocked by a directve 
similar to the following:
<Directory />
   Options -All -Multiviews
   AllowOverride None
   <IfModule mod_access.c>
     Order deny,allow
     Deny from all
