I'll second Bruce's recommendation... I'd been running AT&T and BSD
flavors of UNIX since 1983 and switched from NetBSD to Linux when the
1.0 kernel came out, but didn't really understand Linux until I built a
Linux from Scratch box and tuned it for different jobs.
