Thanks, all I have to do is copy the dir structure to somewhere else and
presto! My entire Linux setup is backed up.  (due to the screwy way that
wubi creates the directories for Linux).

I believe what you seek is found in the phrase:

apt-get upgrade distro


Oh yes, do be careful, no gaurantees implied, and your milage may vary.
