DistroWatch.com lists 10 distributions under the category "Rescue". Of
the list, the most regularly updated is SystemRescueCD.

A number of utility-oriented distros (PartedMagic, CloneZilla) include
one or more partition copy/clone utilities as well as the venerable
GParted editor. These are categorized in DistroWatch as "Specialist".

I regularly use SystemRescueCD or Trinity Rescue Kit for backup of NTFS
partitions. I like having backups in at least two forms on different
media, such as hard drive and USB flash drive, before making big changes
to a computer system.  --Don
