here are the results:

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination

My tables are same exact. I had a prob in past, memory not clear and I think the cure was I ran the recovery option in grub boot and ask it to fix broken packages and running that 3X the 2nd run also asked to remove some stuf and third was clean check. I believe that the prob had disappeared when I then booted. my mem is bit vague but if u have not run that it won't hurt.

Also, why fear a reinstall since u hav a desktop to connect your laptop I would do a complete backup and be sure to include your user dot files. Also there are few other files to save I fail to recall but the Goog can prolly bring that up.
good luck hope you solve this soon
