My monitor is SVA-9005L 19"LCD native res is 1280x1024 at 75

Output of gtf:
herb at herb-Aelf:~$ gtf 1280 1024 75

  # 1280x1024 @ 75.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 80.17 kHz; pclk: 138.54 MHz
  Modeline "1280x1024_75.00" 138.54 1280 1368 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1069 -HSync +Vsync

In V-8.04 I was able to sudo the file and add the modeline in to the screen section but I also remember that I had to change something in the -HSync +Vsync code but forgot what?

My problem is in Ubuntu 10.04 I do not find /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. I did learn that it is now created dynamically but I do not know how to get a starting file that contains other correct data and I can modify it for the screen res.

Can someone sort me out with this. When I go System/Preferences/monitor I only get choice of 1024x768 and 1360x768 neither will work proper I cannot see anyway to input the proper code there.
Thanks hh
