MS doesn't care if Linux falls by the wayside with their new UEFI ploy,
in fact, for them it would be a welcome side-effect to exclude Linux
from running on Windows PCs. However, this is a problem for manufacturers
to solve. They will have to provide a BIOS option to disable UEFI. When
you do that, you will be able to boot other operating systems, but not
Win8. A solution in the BIOS seems like the most logical way forward to
support both.

My guess is that vendors will take a very close look at this. A major
source of income for the maufacturers is HPC and the server market,
which is exclusively owned by Linux now, and it is huge. There isn't
a serious HPC system in production that is running Windows. They all
run Linux, and the vendors will not cut them out of the market.
