Do an   ls -latr and see the permissions of the "." folders/files

reboot to single user mode or recovery console

chmod 644 /home/herb/.dmrc
chown herb:herb /home/herb/.dmrc
chmod 755 /home/herb
chown herb:herb /home/herb

> Hmmmm so the files are there I can't see anything wrong with the permissions..now what? lol I dunno what to fix nor how to fix it. I am backed up but I hope to retrieve the install since I have spent the past 5months tweaking & adding apps the other instance of 12.04 is not used except for this recovery effort.
