The syntax for parted is arcane.  A much better way is to use the latest 
fdisk from util-linux:

https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/util-linux/v2.26/util-linux-2.26.2.tar.xz 


or gdisk:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/gptfdisk/gptfdisk/1.0.0/gptfdisk-1.0.0.tar.gz

Recommended patch: 
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/patches/blfs/svn/gptfdisk-1.0.0-convenience-1.patch

Both handle GUID Partition Tables (GPT) nicely.  My preference is gdisk 
because the output is nicer by default.
