Actually, it is a "fresh" install -- I completely wiped out her old copy
of OpenSUSE and installed Mint in it's place.

But you may have pointed me in the right direction with that link above
that talked about starting Firefox in safe mode. When I did that and my
wife started having trouble (with it slowing to an almost complete
stop), I saw a whole bunch of error messages like this:

Three of this:

    [Parent][DispatchAsyncMessage] Error: (msgtype=0xE40001,name=???)
    Route error: message sent to unknown actor ID

followed by one each of these:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0x2C0004,name=PBrowserStream::Msg___delete__) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xE40003,name=PStreamNotify::Msg___delete__) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

many instances of:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xAA001E,name=PPluginInstance::Msg_AsyncSetWindow) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

then one of these:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xAA0069,name=PPluginInstance::Msg_PBrowserStreamConstructor)
    Channel timeout: cannot send/recv

then another of these:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xE40003,name=PStreamNotify::Msg___delete__) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

and a few more of:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xAA001E,name=PPluginInstance::Msg_AsyncSetWindow) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

and this one again:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xAA0069,name=PPluginInstance::Msg_PBrowserStreamConstructor)
    Channel timeout: cannot send/recv

then one more of these before I was finally able to close the offending
web pages:

    [Parent][MessageChannel] Error:
    (msgtype=0xE40003,name=PStreamNotify::Msg___delete__) Channel
    timeout: cannot send/recv

Results from a Google search seems to indicate that it is probably
related to Flash. I installed Chromium (for comparison purposes), and
so far so good (and watch ... as soon as I send this, it will freeze up!).
