Regarding the dv9000z series, specifically the red warning that it will not work with Linux.

I have a dv9000z working with Debian Etch AMD64, kernel 2.6.18-3. To install, try acpi=off. Some people have had luck with pci=usepirqmask, but I still had trouble with shutdown/reboot and occasional lockup when sound was activated by konsole. I did some reading on LKML and now for day to day running, I use iommu=off which seems stable. At least I haven't been able to lock the machine up yet.

It looks like there are some nVidia nForce chipset workarounds, and LKML shows one user had success by commenting those out in the kernel source (for an nForce desktop board). Rather than rebuild, I tried just turning off the iommu with a boot option.

Anyhow, it will (mostly) work with Linux. I had BIOS F.19, upgrade to F.1A did not seem to affect anything. The only issue I have now is that the headphone jacks do not work.
